The Royal Palace in Nuku'alofa, which the bank describes as a wooden building of 1867 that still keeps its original material, is the subject on the back of the ten-pa'anga note. The palace is the official residence of the King of Tonga, and the front of the same note shows the monarch himself, Taufa'ahau Tupou IV.
The National Reserve Bank of Tonga introduced this undated series in 1995, and the front of every denomination carries the portrait of King Taufa'ahau Tupou IV and the coat of arms. It was succeeded by the notes the bank issued on 21 January 2009, on which the late king's portrait gave way to that of George Tupou V.
The king on the front and his palace on the back make a complete story of the Tongan monarchy; variety a, with the series' first signature, opens the run of 1995 tens in a Tonga collection. UNC condition means the note has never circulated: no folds, no wear, no soiling, even corners — just as it left the press.
